During a search of his home, troopers found numerous weapons.
The incident began around 2 a.m. Monday when state police, along with Southbury officers, responded to a domestic violence call at the home of Joseph Michael Stotz, 38, of Southbury, said Trooper Kelly Grant.
Upon arrival, officers made contact with Stotz who immediately barricaded himself in the home, Grant said.
The state police Tactical Unit was deployed in an attempt to get Stotz to come out on his own without the use of force. Due to the nature of the situations and tactics used, a section of Purchase Road was closed for more than 14 hours during the standoff, state police said.
After 14 hours, Stotz was taken into custody around 4 p.m. Grant said that he hit one trooper during his arrest.
Following his arrest, he was transported to Waterbury Hospital where he was evaluated and released into police custody.
Stotz was arrested and charged with disorderly conduct, interfering with a police officer and assault on a police officer.
He is being held on $100,000 bond and is scheduled to appear in court later Tuesday.
